35% Fuzz, 25% Reverb, 5% Sitar, 9% Reverse, 10% Drones, 16% Other stuff with The Wands - An Interview

May the FUZZ be with you......

***** Interview with The Wands *****

Q. When did The Wands starts, tell us about the history...
Christian :
Mads and I have known each other for ages and we've been wanting to make music together for several years. About 1½ year ago, I moved to Copenhagen, and we started putting together a band. In december 2011 we played a couple of songs at a party at The Woken Trees' villa. We wrote some more songs and played our first “real” show in March 2012. After that things went pretty fast... In June we signed with Fuzz Club records and started working on our debut.

Q: Who are your influences?
Mads:
I don't think we have any main influences right now. The songs we did for the "Hello-Ep" is/were very inspired by 60's hippie/psych/garage rock. The full-length will probably be a bit different.
Christian:
We're also very influenced by some of the great 60's-revivalists of our time such as Spacemen 3, The Warlocks, Black Angels, the BJM. But I think the closer we get to finding what we consider our own sound, the less we think about who our influences are.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
Christian:
Generally I prefer not to make “best of”-lists but here's some of our favorites:
From Nowhere - The Troggs
Crown of Creation - Jefferson Airplane
Dark Shadows - Cold Sun
The Electric Prunes - The Electric Prunes
Dopesmoker (Jerusalem) - Sleep

Q. How do you feel playing alive?
Mads:
The Wands is definitely a live band. We love playing live and like so many other bands we're way better when we have an audience.

Q. How do you describe The Wands sounds?
35% Fuzz, 25% Reverb, 5% Sitar, 9% Reverse, 10% Drones, 16% Other stuff

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the debut?
Mads:
Our friends from “Broke” has a recording studio 5 meters from where we rehearse. therefore it was very easy for us to record our songs ongoing. We started recording with Mads Bergland, who also produced the EP, before we even played our first gig.
The debut was made over a long period of time, it reflects the development of the band since we first started. I think that's why it's so special to us.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Christian:
A lot of exciting stuff going on around here at the moment. Danish bands like The Road To Suicide, Shiny Darkly, The Woken Trees, Oracle O. and Spökraket are all worth much more attention than they're getting..
Mads:
Also Fuzz Club's The Lucid Dream from England who played an amazing gig at “The Reveb Conspiracy” this year. Really looking forward to their full-length debut.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
Christian:
Don't know... Driving from Berlin to Leipzig we listened to one song for two-three hours. Would probably be that one. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath... It makes you wanna empty bottles...

Q: What are the plans for future....
Mads:
The main focus is on a full-length we're planning to make. We also want to tour Europe some more. We heard good stuff about playing in Portugal and Greece, so that's probably where we'll be heading next time. Probably some more shows in the UK as well...
This week we will be doing a video recording of a small live session at our rehearsal room. It will probably be out in the beginning of February.

Q: Any parting words?
Christian:
Thank you to the Blog that celebrates itself and good music.. we would love to go to Brazil some time. See ya!
