Red Medicine with Shadows Without Objects - An Interview

Leonard Louie é Shadows Without Objects uma one man band diretamente das Filipinas.

***** Interview with Shadows Without Objects *****

Q. When did Shadows Without Objects starts, tell us about the history...
It started sometime in November, for a while I've wanted to start a solo project and have been dabbling mostly into music production and recording for the past few years. I've since gain more knowledge on the subject matter through playing around with different styles and compositions. This whole thing is a reflection of me, only me and just me.

Q: Who are your influences?
M83, Fugazi, A Place to Bury Strangers, My Bloody Valentine, Neurosis, Mogwai, Nine Inch Nails, Ride, Warpaint, Kasabian, St. Vincent, Dinosaur Jr., Pavement, Faust, Elliot Smith, Black Sabbath, The Flaming Lips, Kraftwork, Yo La Tengo, Alkaline Trio, Sigur Rós, Radiohead, Portishead among many others.

Q. Made a list of 5 albums of all time…
These are just some of my favorites...

Ride – Nowhere
The Flaming Lips – Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
Fugazi – Red Medicine
A Place to Bury Strangers – Worship
Neurosis – Times of Grace

Q. How do you describe Shadows Without Objects´ sounds?
It’s all about music without boundaries. I won’t be able to categorize my music under a certain genre. Music is infinite and no matter how you sound there will always be a connection of some kind to other of sonic equivalence. But no matter what I always tend to write songs that sound and feel ‘dark’ because that’s just how I am. I could never write a happy song, it just doesn't feel natural.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
I've always write the lyrics first. It’s almost always that before I start writing a song I have processed most of the arrangement playing on top of my head and I somehow already know how I’m going to go with it then I’ll start messing around with the guitars or bass and come up with something more. As for the recording, I record everything in a small space here at home.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
DIIV, Savages, Youth Lagoon

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
I don’t really have any intention to cover any song at the moment. We’ll see, for now I’ll just leave it empty.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
I’ll work on my future releases, most likely an LP before 2015 ends and to play shows live starting early 2015, it’s something I’m currently putting a lot of work on since I’m doing everything myself.

Q: Any parting words?
Thanks. It’s my pleasure.
