Bloody Kisses with Himmel - An Interview

***** Interview with Himmel *****

Q. When did Himmel started, tell us about the history...
Well it started about a year and a half ago. I didn't know that it was going to be this kind of project (I mean with different vocalists on each track). I actually was looking for a single singer. But while I was searching for her/him I put many ads around the web. And many great singers replied…. so I took it as an opportunity for collaborating with many different and brilliant musicians and the result is the album "A Long Cold Winter".

Q: Who are your influences?
I have so many. I was a grunge/alternative kid back at school and then passed to electronic music, then came back to rock again. Too many to mention ;)

Q. Make a list of 5 albuns of all time…
As I said too many; records that got me passioned about music when I was a kid were:

Faith No More - Angel Dust
Type 0 Negative - Bloody Kisses
Carcass - Heartwork
Guns n Roses - Appetite
Mr Bungle - Mr Bungle

Q. How do you feel playing live?
It depends on the project. I loved playing live with Black Rainbows around Europe, as a bass player a few years ago. But that's a rock/heavy/psych band…. for Himmel it would be completely different and at the moment it stays as a studio only project.

Q. How do you describe Himmel sounds?
Dreamy and profound, and slightly dark. At least I hope that this is what the listener gets ;)

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
In all the songs I wrote the instrumental part and then had one of the singer writing the vocals and lyrics on it. Then depending on the vocals, if needed I would work again on the song to modify the structure to fit with it. It usually starts with me, the guitar, and a whole bunch of effects...

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
I absolutely loved Bloom by Beach House, and the debut albums from DIIV and Chvrches. And that's for the more pop side…. For the darker side, I love the work of the Sargent House label: Chelsea Wolfe, Emma Ruth Rundle. On the electronic side, Purity Ring and M83 are amongst my favorites lately.

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
I'd say Type 0 Negative. But Peter Steele's voice is inimitable

Q: What´s the plans for future....
I am working on a few songs that I didn't finish for this release and on new stuff.

Q: Any parting words?
Thanks Renato for the interview, and thanks to anyone who supported/is going to support us!!
