Pre-Millennium Tension with Kitsch!! - An Interview

***** Interview with Kitsch!! *****

1. When did Kitsch!! started, tell us about the history...
In 2009, me (Osvaldo) asked Rafa to make an indie covers band, then I called the others (Maria C. and Ronny), all 4 were longtime friends. We got bored with covers rapidly and started to compose tunes and played them live in local bars. Since the beginning we have used my home studio to record all of our releases, it gives us total freedom to experiment.

2. Who are your influences?
Sonic Youth, The Soft Moon, Girls Names, M83, Dinosaur Jr., Agalloch, Kalpataru Tree.

3. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
Sonic Youth - Dirty,
The Cure – Disintegration,
The Soft Moon – Zeros,
Tricky-Pre-Millennium Tension,
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath.

4. How do you feel playing live?
My band mates (Rafa, Ronny, Maria C.) love to play live, I (Osvaldo) prefer to record songs. Sometimes it is wonderful playing live, sometimes is not.

5. How do you describe Kitsch!! sounds?
Ecletic.

6. Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
I (Osvaldo) compose visually, I start recording a bass riff on the computer and add a drum machine beat to it. Then I add the guitars and synths as layers leaving the vocals for last, coming up with lyrics on the go, using a lot of reverb because I consider myself a lousy singer so I try to use the voice only as another sound layer. Then I re-record live most instruments looking for a particular sound color experimenting with different mics, guitars, amps, pedals, synth sounds, even lyrics. The process is like painting, no rules.

7. Which new bands do you recommended?
“Maleza” and “Uva” (Both from Panama)

8. Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
We won’t be playing covers again.

9. What´s the plans for future....
Hopefully playing abroad and record more music. We still have unreleased material.

10. Any parting words?
Cheers and enjoy our music.
