Fields with Transfigure - An Interview

***** Interview with Transfigure *****

Q. When did Transfigure start? Tell us about the history…
We started the project in 2012 but didn't start taking it seriously until 2014 after we left school. Back then the sound was very minimal and fitted easily into the brackets of ‘minimal synth/cold wave’. Since the only other act making music within those realms in the North East of England at that time was Lebanon Hanover, we struck up a friendship with them through which we made many contacts in mainland Europe and especially Germany. These contacts brought about our last two european tours which were very successful and have gathered us a fan base in these areas.

Q: Who are your influences?
Nowadays we are mainly influenced by the clubs in Newcastle and our weekly visits to nights like Dragnet at theCut. Not only the music but the clothes and the culture too have had a profound effect on us over the past couple of years.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
Lewis:
Pet Shop Boys - Very
New Order - Technique
Depeche Mode - Violator
OMD - Sugar Tax
808 State - 90

Grace:
Kraftwerk - Trans-Europe Express
Japan - Tin Drum
Pet Shop Boys - Actually
Devo - Freedom Of Choice
Heaven 17 - Penthouse And Pavement

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Ecstatic.

Q. How do you describe Transfigure sounds?
Touching melodies paired with a rhythmic synthetic undercurrent which finds its home on the dance floors of Europe.. We brand it ‘Euro Wave’

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
At the moment we always work in the studio with our producer Neil Iceton. He's central to the sound on our new single ‘Fields’. He refines our vision and creates a more polished product. We always use only hardware synthesizers and drum machines and we have a large collection of different models. But we are starting to use the guitar more frequently in our work. It gives it a more human element and much of the music we listen to is guitar based anyway so it finds a way in to our music.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
‘Perfect Human’ from Moscow. They have a great tape out on Perfect Aesthetics.

‘Le Cliche’ from Limerick. Get the LP Consumer Behaviour on Medical Records.

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
Saint Etienne - Who Do You Think You Are

Q: What are your plans for the future?
To release our album which we have finished recording and to tour extensively.

Q: Any parting words?
‘Europe Endless’
